  • Positive: This was our first beachside holiday in Spain for many years and we were so glad we chose the Guadalmina. This hotel is of a very high standard worth more than its 4 star rating, however as some Tripadvisors have noted it is at least a taxi ride away from any shops, bars, restaurants etc. This did not bother us as we were quite happy just to enjoy the hotel facilities and its grounds. We opted for the ‘over 55 full board’ deal and were pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of the meals. We discovered that the menu was flexible so if you fancied something off the A la Carte, as long as it was under 25 Euro you could have that as a substitute. If it was over then you paid the difference, how fair is that? Lunch and dinner includes a glass of house wine to the colour of your choice and we found that if you did not have a desert a second free glass was no problem, although this may have been at the discretion of the Maitre D’. Breakfast was a real treat with a fantastic choice and a help yourself buffet which even included fried/ scrambled/ boiled eggs, bacon, sausage as well as continental choices (the croissants were a treat) and a great range of fruit. Coffee was on tap from three machines as much as you wanted. I love my coffee and I can say that the quality was very good indeed. There was also Cava in ice buckets to make Bucks Fizz if you wanted to, how many other hotels do this? None in our experience. The staff were superb especially Maitre D’ Jose Antonio Ruiz, waiters Vincente, Andrea and all the others whom we did not get the names of. Our room gave a superb view of the golf course and the sea; we take many of our holidays in the USA so we were delighted to discover that the room was of a comparable size to Stateside. The bathroom was spotless (as was everything else) and was generously supplied with products every day. The pool is actually bigger than it looks in the photographs and does not seem to be heated, so it was a bit fresh on a morning! But it warmed up as the day went on, it was also scrupulously clean. All in all we had a great week at the Guadalmina and I feel I should mention the courteous assistance we were given by Subdirector Conrado Hernandez who helped us with a misunderstanding caused largely by language difficulties. Having said that the staff’s command of English was far better than our Spanish. We would certainly choose this hotel again.
