Situated in Getxo, this 3-star boutique hotel is located next to the beach and near the main touristic and cultural spots in Bilbao, such as the Guggenheim Museum. Relax in the comfortable rooms, designed in an avant-garde style and enjoy the lovely sea views from your own private terrace. There is also an excellent restaurant serving traditional Basque cuisine. Business meetings or conferences can be organised here in the event halls overlooking the sea. The town of Getxo boasts 10 km of stunning coastline and picturesque surrounding countryside with forests and rolling hills. It is a great destination for outdoor pursuits. In addition to the facilities already mentioned, all rooms come with 26-inch flat-screen TVs and bathrooms with hydromassage showers. High-end laptop computer with web cam and Internet connection in all rooms and Individual audio multi-adapter with remote control for IPOD and IPHONE, compatible with all Apple models. Some also have balconies with views of the sea.

  • Positive: The balcony, the sea view, the free internet and the modern style of the fully refurbished rooms.
  • Negative: The smell from the air conditioning and it would be nice if the facade of the building had been renovated to the same quality as the interior. The staff could also do with being more friendly. The staff were not impolite but no attempt was made to make me feel like one of the family.

  • Common facilities and services: 5 The Internet service is good as is the bar and restaurant. However the hotel does not have gym any facilities but this is not a problem because the hotel is ideally located for jogging outdoors.
  • Staff: 5 Efficient and courteous yes but friendly no. I have stayed in getxi many times before and always opted to stay at the Hotel Igeretxe. The staff at the Igeretxe are very friendly, always saying hello and taking the time to chat and get to know you. I only sitched hotels because the Igeretxe rooms are in need of some refurbishment and the internet service has to paid for at extra cost (but breakfats is included in the room charge)

  • Room: 10 The rooms have been excellently refurbished and provide the options for 4 people per room.
  • Value for money: 5 Because the hotel offers a double bed plus 2 bunk beds it is cheaper than having to book 2 rooms when travelling with children. However it would have been nice to have the breakfast included within the room price a well as the internet connection.
