• Positive: where do i start? this hotel (along with Hotel Inglaterra in Seville) would have to be the best value for money hotel we've stayed in our entire lives! excellent value for money! the staff are first rate and the quality and amount to eat in the breakfasts are unsurpassed! and all included in the room rate; it doesn't get any better! our luggage was delayed by iberia upon arriving at madrid airport. we were only staying 2 nights at the hotel carlton so we were unsure whether our luggage would arrive there in time. the front desk staff were very helpful and always on the lookout for our luggage. after 2 days it had still not arrived and we had to check out; fortunately we were due to return to the hotel later in the week for 1 night before heading off to paris. we reminded the staff of this and they said they'd contact us if any luggage turned up. true to their word, they voicemailed me on my overseas mobile (at their expense) advising me our luggage had finally arrived and they'd keep it secure for our return arrival. upon our arrival (and reuniting with our delayed luggage), not only did they keep it secure for several nights without charge, they upgraded our room for our last night, without an extra fee! i can not speak highly enough for the crew at hotel carlton; they are all exquisite staff! this is a fantastic hotel and located near the train station (but not too close..), and close to all madrid's attractions. what a lovely city and hotel! rooms have all been recently renovated and very spacious. i would not hesitate in staying at hotel carlton when next in madrid; in fact i'd go out of my way to re-visit madrid just to stay at hotel carlton!!

• Staff: 10 they were all so helpful. one individual (he wore glasses) was particularly helpful in advising us each of the status of our delayed luggage from our flight. i wish i knew his name to place here. anyway, all staff spoke excellent English as well.
• Quietness: 10
• Room: 10 rooms appear to have been recently renovated with all the mod cons. a very complete set of toiletries are included in each room along with a clear plastic case to keep them in; well thought out and well designed rooms. very quiet too with plenty of light.
• Value for money: 10 this is the best value for money hotel we've ever stayed out anywhere in the world; and we travel quite a lot and have stayed in many hotels worldwide.
