March is one of the most uneven months of the current annual calendar. Spring is coming and it represents the prelude of Easter week in Spain. The south of the peninsula is a coming and going of activities. From gastronomic sessions to concerts or exhibitions. We offer you the most exciting ones in Sevilla this month.
Gastronomic sessions
Apart from the cultural tours where you can contemplate Seville’s superb architectonic richness, the gastronomy of the area is one of its main highlights. Traditional food mixes with the new tastes of the author’s cuisine, and the ‘tapas’ are the real protagonists. Till May 30th, you can enjoy authentic delicacies at the “Jornadas gastronómicas el joven Murillo”; Gastronomic sessions with a total of 32 establishments from Seville and province that propose treats of the 17th century, at the time where the famous artist Murillo lived.
Music
7 March to 21 March, the city holds a new edition of the Ancient Music Festival of Seville, FEMAS 2010. Under the title ‘Lands and Roots’ this festival includes 22 concerts and 10 complementary activities ( master classes, talks…) Music of the French court will be played, as well as Italian compositions from the 16th century and English polyphonies. The best of this event is that it takes place in different venues around the city. Special popular corners famous for their history and great artistic beauty such as the Alcazar of Seville, Casa de la Provincia, or the monastery of la Cartuja.
Art
If you are in Seville during this month and you love art, you can’t miss the exhibition of the young Murillo, a long journey through the most important pieces of the youth of the painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, that represents the most complete hindsight that has ever been made in the capital. You can visit it in the Museo de las Bellas Artes de Sevilla until 30 March.
Theatre
It’s time to see a good play. You are lucky because 25 till 27 March at the Lope de Vega theatre “The Meeting of Descartes and the Young Pascal” by Jean-Claude Brisville will be representing. The artists Josep María Flotats and Albert Triola are the only actors interpreting this play where two of the most important philosophers meet and exchange two total different ways of thinking.
There is also room for love with Santi Rodriguez’s monologues. The popular fruit seller of the comedy series “Aida” shows his particular attitude towards quotidian events. At the Alameda Theatre, 12 and 14 March.
