In Spain there are plenty of sites suitable for canoeing, especially in the rivers of the Iberian peninsula, with the Cares and Deva, Asturias and Cantabria, the best. In the National Park Picos de Europa was the birthplace of these rivers so suitable for this sport, where no beginner will feel in danger during any season, but still considered an adventure.
The best route for canoe I have seen with my own eyes in my experience, is not a legal or legitimate route, it is not recommended for beginners or those who take time but have no guts. This route is at sea. It is not in the Mediterranean or the Black Sea or the Dead Sea, far from it. This is pure Atlantic, chaired by the Cliffs of Giants in southern Tenerife.
But to make the route Do Not go from the port of Los Gigantes, but from the north of the island, Punta de Teno, where you will depart with your canoe being acclaimed by local visitors, knowing what awaits you . Without a doubt, a great trip.
The aim is to cross all the northern cliffs to reach the south area of Los Gigantes, serving a total distance of 3 km, with a stop included in the Barranco and Playa de Masca, that can only be accessed from sea, or down a scary ravine way down, not earlier than 2 ½ hours walk from the village of Masca.
Since one is out of the Punta de Teno you start to feel to be moving into the territory of nature, and when you look on the left you will feel a little dizzy and admiration at the sight of huge vertical walls that rise from the depths of the sea, that were name The Giants for their height. Once in Playa de Masca, which is more or less in the middle of the trail, one can ditch land and rest, all this to get stronger and make the last part of the section, which will take you to the Port Los Gigantes. The trouble is, if you leave the car at Punta de Teno no choice but to return in a canoe, because there is no road connecting the two sites, so as I said, this is certainly an adventure.
