The province of Alicante is the most densely populated area in Spain. Open to the sea, it has been influenced throughout the years by different factors to create the rich culture it enjoys today.
Without a doubt one of the main reasons people visit Alicante is to see its spectacular "fallas" festival on St. Joseph's feast day. You can also visit the lovely beaches, such as the ones in Gandía or Sant Antoni, or play golf at one of the many golf courses. In terms of regional dishes, the famous Valencian paella, fideuá and the sweet Alicante nougat (turrón) are highly recommended.
